The New York-based group, Sister Squares, has joined forces with Will Butler, best known as a former member and co-founder of a well-known indie rock band Arcade Fire, and are set to perform at Palladium Concert Hall in Riga on November 7. Will Butler & Sister Squares newest single "Willows" is a nostalgic and soulful track that showcases their sound and collaborative style.
'Willows' is about leaving the past in the past,” Butler says. “Nostalgia is sweet, but it’s a poison. The scene of the song is someone driving off into the wilderness to meet an old woman — one of the Fates, like in a folk tale. And maybe he wants to be young again, or wants things back the way they used to be. And she says: Anything can happen, for a price.”
Sister Squares is a New York-based group with roots in dance and theater. Its members are Sara Dobbs, Julie Shore, Jenny Shore, and Miles Francis, and since 2015, Sister Squares have performed together with Will Butler as his backing band, but now they have joined forces in one project.
Will Butler announced last March that he’d left Arcade Fire, which he’d played in since 2003 alongside his older brother, frontman Win Butler.
“There was no acute reason beyond that I’ve changed—and the band has changed—over the last almost 20 years. Time for new things.”
Continuing with his solo project, Will released two new songs - “A Stranger’s House” and “Nearer to Thee.”
