On August 18, the latest JL Kalmann (Jēkabs Ludvigs) and Whoever (Kristaps Cinis) collaboration "Butterflies" was released. Like the recently released single "Mirror on the wall", this track was also released in cooperation with Made In Baltics Entertainment (Sony Music).
"My latest musical work is an indie-electronic song that reflects both sides of relationships - the one filled with butterflies and on the other hand, the one that is filled with pain. There can be no light without darkness and joy without sorrow" is how the artist himself describes his song.
The final version of "Butterflies" has been polished over the past few months, remotely via Zoom. JL Kalmann has been living in Spain for the last year, where he was DJ-ing in a prestigious club in Marbella, where recognizable names on the electronic music scene such as Rufus Du Sol, Jimi Jules, Peggy Gou, &ME and others regularly play.
Getting to Marbella was a result of series of coincidences : "As a joke in July 2022, I produced a couple of pieces of house music and sent them to my friends without thinking much of it, I had no idea how far this music would go. A week later, I received an offer to go to Spain and perform as a resident DJ in various highly rated clubs of this resort."
Toms Grēviņš was the first person that JL Kalmann called and asked for help: "I am grateful that he could spare an hour of his time to show me the basic principles of this genre."
Ever since his first DJ set in Marbella, Jēkabs felt what it's like to "control" people's minds and feelings through music, vibrations and understood how important it is to create a feeling of "tension and release" in the right moments. The artist had already learned this while studying in music high school, where he did it with the help of chords, the main thing being vision and learning which buttons to press at the right time.
"I'll be honest, it's too hot for me in Spain, that's one of the reasons why I miss home in Latvia."
When asked about future plans in Latvia, JL Kalmann adds: "In the near future there are plans for collaborations with various artists from the Baltic countries, both as a performer and author, as well as a producer and quite possibly a DJ too!"
