American superstar Khalid to perform in Estonia

Khalid

On May 17, one of the most successful young stars in the world - American musician Khalid, will perform at Saku Suurhall's Blackbox in Tallinn. Tickets here. As previously announced, he will also give a concert in Kaunas, Lithuania on May 14.

Singer and composer Khalid, who celebrated his 24th birthday on February 11, has been on the R&B and pop scene for a few years but progress has been quick and dizzying. His heart-warming vocals and down-to-earth worldview have won the hearts of millions of people. Time magazine named the singer one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Despite his great success, Khalid has remained grounded and says that he especially loves going on tours: "I like people to look at me as a regular guy who’s just involved in a super-rare job that kicks ass."

He uploaded his first experiments in music to Soundcloud when he was in high school. His first single "Location" reached the Billboard charts in 2016, just three months after Khalid received his high school diploma. By the end of the year, the debut single landed in 20th place, but in January 2017 it was already in the top ten.

However, the album's second single "Young, Dumb & Broke" turned out to be even more successful, making it to the charts and rocking the radio waves for several years in a row.

"My mother has been my great inspiration," admitted Khalid, who was raised by a single mother. "She also sings, and music was part of everyday life in our home. It helped me understand at a young age that I wanted to be involved in music industry in some way or another.”

Khalid's first album American Teen, released in 2017, was praised by critics and music lovers alike and won Grammy nominations. To date, the album has achieved double platinum status, which means that it has sold over two million copies.

Released in 2018, EP Suncity debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200. In April 2019, Khalid made history by becoming the first and only artist to occupy the entire top 5 of the Billboard R&B Songs chart. Khalid has also landed a 59-week straight streak of hits on the Hot 100 since his Normani collaboration "Love Lies" debuted on the chart. Khalid has been recognized with six Billboard Awards, three American Music Awards and one MTV Video Award.

He has collaborated with several other well-known names: Lorde, SZA, Post Malone, Shawn Mendes, Martin Garrix, Billie Eilish, Juice Wrld, Normani and Benny Blanco.

"When I write music, I'm not inspired by just one artist," Khalid said. "I listen to new stuff day in, and day out and always find ways to refresh my taste in music."
