On September 2nd nearly a hundred local musicians will perform the works of some of Latvia's most beloved composers at the Mežaparka Grand Stage. The concert will offer a real celebration of popular music with various genre stars taking the stage, including rappers, famous pop bands, and an orchestra. Get your tickets here!
According to Arstarulsmirus, the music producer and creative director of the concert:
The event will continue the tradition of the first grand concert, which was dedicated to the work of Raimonds Pauls. This year's concert will feature many different songs written by Latvian greats from both the last century and this century, including compositions by Imants Kalniņš, Uldis Stabulnieks, Raimonds Pauls, Mārtiņš Brauns, and other much-loved Latvian composers.
At Mežaparks big stage you will see current local music stars, all-time popular stage stars, and classical music professionals, including DJ Monsta, the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra under the leadership of conductor Jānis Ivuškāns, and the Riga Chamber Choir Ave Sol. The internationally known Latvian violinist Roberts Balanas will also represent classical music. Local rappers Gustavo, rolands če and Singapūras Satīns will delight fans of the hip-hop genre. Pop music stars such as Sudden Lights, Instrumenti, Būū, Citi Zēni, The Sound Poets, Mazais Princis, Aminata, Aija Andrejeva, Jumprava, 100. debija, Žoržs Siksna, and Igo will also perform. The concert will combine traditional music with modern improvisations by choirmaster Laima Jansone, and countertenor Sergejs Jēgers will represent the opera music genre.
The tradition of the Grand Concert of Latvian Music began on September 10, 2022, with a concert dedicated to the work of Raimonds Paulus at Daugava Stadium. The program featured timeless compositions of the Maestro and the biggest hits of the artists themselves, and it was recognized as the best event of 2022 in Riga by Latvian Event Forum.
One of the audience's favorite pieces at the first big concert was the joint work "Genoveva & Stils Stils" by Žoržs Siksna and Ozols:
The award-winning local director Papa Chi will take care of directing the visualization of the concert, as in September last year:
We have planned the celebration of Latvian music in Mežaparks as a big show full of countless surprises. We will try to surpass the grandiose stage solution created in the first big concert, and we will also work with the diversity of visual performances and offer previously unseen technical solutions.
