On the night of September 7th to 8th, an interdisciplinary adventure “Ūdenim Tuvu” (eng. - “Close To Water”) will take place at the Ķīpsala swimming pool at 22:22, 23:33, and 24:44. Free tickets are available from August 31st at the Ķīpsala swimming pool information center on weekdays from 06:45-21:30, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 07:45-21:30.
"Does the River Mother have her own voice? And if she does, what does it say? Does nature have a primal language that an artist can understand, translate, and transform? We invite you to experience a journey in the metaphorical belly of a whale, in the realm of the River Mother, where the fundamental element of life - water - can be celebrated! The primal chaos from which the world is born; the journey between rain, rivers, and the sea, between dreams and memories in time, untouched places in the river's bends, echolocation between songs and river gestures, and the water that is part of our bodies. A unique fusion of artist and nature, a refined connection, knowledge, and the force of life in its continuous and ever-changing motion, to renew and secure the present and future of our shared water sphere," shares artist Pedro Leitão in his reflections on the event.
The adventure is created by and features the Youth Choir BALSIS, artistic director Ints Teterovskis, Portuguese artist Pedro Leitão, video artist Pēteris Brīniņš, lighting artist Ivars Vācers, and sign language interpreter Elza Veismane. Parts of the acappella chord song cycle "Songs about the Rivers of Latvia" by Raimonds Pauls and Inese Zandere will be performed.
The interdisciplinary adventure is part of the "White Night" Contemporary Culture Forum program. It is organized by the Music and Art Development Fund "Balsis" and supported by the Riga municipality. All "White Night" events can be found here.
