Latvian art rock group Perestroika has released their debut album "Memorial Server".
Memorials are dedicated to the dearly departed - memorial servers are dedicated to their infinite online forms. The content of these songs is based on imaginary perspectives in which various human pathologies are studied- the shortcomings of power structures, the assignment of meaning to meaningless things and repetitive, shallow escapism.
We are algorithmically guided beings whose actions in digital spaces are engraved in databases. When something enters digital space, it remains eternal and eventually, links to its creator are severed. Our shadows remain as digital ghosts.
The album includes 3 previously released singles - The Great Firewall Of China, Soviet Union Playboy and Eastern Fashion.
Perestroika (Russian: перестройка - "rebuilding") is the modern interpretation of a reform that reached critical mass and went out of control at the turn of the century, which was characterized by the transition of society from the power of repressive systems to free self-determination.
This is a musical project created by two people - two opposites in a collaboration that balances reality with its online mirror image. Perestroika is Rudolfs Ozols, Leo Novus, Alise Golovacka, Dāvis Mazurenko, Aleksandrs Barons.
