Latvian Dan Lion has released his debut single "Trompete", the first sketch of the upcoming debut album.
The work towards Dan Lion’s debut album started in 2018, when the artist lived in the United Kingdom, Essex. In the first version, the musical theme was planned to be played on a guitar. However, the cultural life in England’s most expressive county inspired Daniel to entrust it to the queen of jazz - the trumpet.
When the musician returned to Latvia, the mixing and mastering of the album was done in collaboration with the recording studio No Fuss Audio in Tukums. The full record will be released already this spring.
Daniel expressed a keen interest in music from an early age. He recorded bits and pieces on a tape recorder and often asked his father to play jazz records. Daniel’s father, who also had been a musician for many years, remembers that the trumpet player Dizzy Gillespie was one of his son’s favourites. It’s no surprise that Gilllespie’s music has left an imprint on Daniel’s debut composition.
During his school years, Daniel played the guitar in different bands. This experience allowed him to befriend many popular musicians in Latvia and abroad. Finding his own sound was a long yet important process. The music Daniel performs and composes underwent many transformations until it settled in the field of instrumental music enriched with elements from electronic and ambient genres.
DanLION or Daniel Lion is the artist's chosen stage name. Its origin comes from the Biblical story of Daniel in the lion’s den. Daniel playfully points out:
There’s a cat in all of us!
The musician expresses gratitude to everyone who supported his dream and made this record a reality! Especially - sound engineer Valērijs Černejs, and trumpet player Viesturs Galenieks.
