Latvia's Supernova national competition for the Eurovision Song Contest has announced its 15 semi-finalists, who will compete live on February 4 for a spot in the final, coming up on February 11. Supernova will be hosted by Lauris Reiniks and Ketija Šēnberga.
The winner of the competition, chosen by a combination of audience votes and jury evaluations, will represent Latvia at the international Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool, United Kingdom in May. Take a look at the 15 semi-finalists:
24th Avēnija - "You said": Musicians Kārlis Grīnbergs and Ernests Vīgners have formed a group combining Kārlis expertise in percussion with Ernest's talents in jazz piano. The group released their debut single "Girl from the city" in August 2022.
Adriana Miglāne - "Like I wanna": Singer Adriana has been performing since age three and has had success in several competitions, including X Factor and Voices of Lithuania.
Alise Hajima - "Tricky": Alise, a singer with a Japanese and Latvian background, discovered her talent while performing karaoke in Japan. She has lived in Latvia since 2009 and has won several music competition prizes, including a finalist spot in the first season of X Factor in Latvia.
Artūrs Hatti - "Love vibes": Artūrs Hatti is a young musician who has been performing for three years and is working on his debut album, set to release in 2023. He dreams of representing Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest and bringing his unique sound to a wider audience.
Avéi – “Let Me Go": Avéi has been singing since childhood and found new inspiration at the RIGaLIVE camp. She has competed in Voice Master and X Factor and is known for her captivating live performances.
“Inspo” – “Sway”: Aivars Lietaunieks founded the group in 2020 and, with the addition of Nadīna Stirniniece, released their first EP "Space Between" and placed eighth in the 2022 Supernova contest with their song "A Happy Place." In 2022, the group released their second album "Duality".
Justs – “Stranger”: Justs began his career as a street musician and later joined the hip-hop group Gacho. In 2016, he won Supernova and represented Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Heartbeat." From 2018 to 2021 he studied music production at BIMM University in the UK.
Katrine Miller – “Beaten Down": Katrīne Miller, a Latvian-origin singer from Sweden, made her debut in Supernova in 2014 and released the popular song "Laiks" (eng. -"Time") with Rock'n'Berries in 2020. In 2022, she collaborated with Rock'n'Berries and the legendary band Odis on the new song "Hey, little."
Luīze – “You To Hold Me”: After honing her vocal skills at Ādaži School of Art and Music and continuing her education at the Riga Cathedral Choir School, Luīze is ready to share her talents with the world. She has participated in vocal contests like Voice Master and Come and Sing since childhood and participates in Supernova with her first original song "You To Hold Me".
Markus Riva – “Forever”: Markus Riva is a musician, TV presenter, model, and DJ with a diverse repertoire that includes music albums in multiple languages. He has won awards at music competitions across Europe and is a regular participant in the Supernova contest.
Patrisha – “Hush”: Patrisha has a lifelong passion for music. She has participated in over sixty vocal competitions in Latvia and abroad and signed with Universal Music Group in 2019. In 2020 she won the Music Recording of the Year Golden Microphone award in the "Best Debut" category.
Raum – “Fake Love”: Raum has had several successful singles on Latvia's leading radio station charts and made it to the finals of Supernova in 2022 with the song "Plans." He is also a former member of the group Double Faced Eels and the first Latvian performer to sign with Warner Music Baltics.
Saule – “Finally Happy”: Saule, a rising musician, is introducing himself to the Latvian music scene with his first album, produced by Rolands Priverts. "Finally Happy" is the herald of this exciting new project and has been applied to Supernova.
“Sudden Lights” – “Aijā”: Sudden Lights is a pop-rock group with a hint of alternative flair. They have released three albums and spent the year 2022 performing at major Latvian festivals and going on tour. They have also started new musical collaborations with rappers Zeļgis and ZeBrene.
Toms Kalderauskis – “When It All Falls”: Toms made his debut in the 2017 Supernova competition and has released seven singles. He has also participated in various musical theatre projects and currently provides musical accompaniment for TV series and children's animated films.
Eurovision is an annual international song competition that has been held since 1956. It is organized by the European Broadcasting Union and features participation from over 50 countries. The competition is one of the longest-running and most-watched television programs in the world, with millions of viewers tuning in every year. The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will be the 68th edition of the event and will take place in the city of Liverpool, United Kingdom.
