On December, 19 Icelandic singer and musician Sóley will perform in Ventspils, in the concert hall “Latvija”, with a program specially created for this concert and together with the string ensemble “Ensemble Melancholia”.
Sóley Stefánsdóttir has been known for more than a decade as a solo artist, multi-instrumentalist and composer, but the artist was certainly recognized by the audience as one of the members of the indie-folk band “Seabear”. Since the debut of “Pretty Face” single, the following three albums, important concert tours and participation in festivals, Sóley's delicate and dreamy surrealism-contented compositions have strengthened a wide range of fans around the world. In the magazine “Rīgas Laiks” Ilmārs Šlāpins in his review about the album “Ask the Deep” once mentioned that “it is difficult to be a young Icelandic singer and not to be compared to Bjork”. But it can also help you get noticed and stay in a different music genre, where is a huge number of strong and great singers with the support of music producers. It also has an objective and mastery basis – Sóley studied classical and jazz style piano as a child and later went to the Icelandic Art Academy to study composition.
For the only concert in the Baltic States to be performed in Ventspils before Christmas Sóley will not come alone. With a program specially created for this concert on Sunday evening, included the album “Mother Melancholia” and older compositions as well, together with the artist on stage will step a string ensemble of Icelandic and Latvian musicians, called “Ensemble Melancholia”.
