Ukrainian post punk duo Gentle Ropes to perform in Riga

Gentle Ropes. Ukrainian band in Riga.

On September 8th, three bands - Gentle Ropes (UA), Rūmai (LT), and Straum (LV) - will perform at the club “Republika” in Riga. Tickets: 5€ at the entrance.

Gentle Ropes is a post-punk project started by Ukrainian musician Serj Kost in 2017 that has now become a duo. Band’s sound is influenced by a mix of 80s gloomy post-punk, synthpop, and shoegaze, creating a dark and brooding atmosphere. The band is currently working on their second album.

Rūmai is a new band from Lithuania that has established itself as a powerful trio by starting in Lithuanian music incubator Novus and continuing to prove themselves with active concert life. Rūmai describe themselves as nihilistic and ironic. Their sound incorporates alternative rock with atmospheric elements, wailing guitars and deep vocal timbre.

Straum is a trio from Riga, Latvia that started in 2021. Band incorporates elements of post-punk, new wave, shoegaze and industrial music in their sound, which is augmented by their core concept of using exclusively digital effects and drum machines, and using guitar effects pedals on vocals. The band is currently working on their debut album, which they intend to publish later this year.
