Antidote. – New Culture Waves Through Electronic Music Scene From Lithuania

Vilnius witnessed a unique moment in history when the 17th-century bell tower of the Church of St. Johns became illuminated with vibrant colors of electronic music delivered by the elegant and passionate artist Akvilina. This iconic moment marked the opening of the second season of Antidote.

The architectural ensemble of Vilnius University has played an immense part in the formation of the Lithuanian national and cultural identity as the heart and soul of liberty, freedom of thought, and pursuit of idealism. Symbolically, this historic monument has now opened itself up to a new period of social and cultural transformation through the recognition and acceptance of the underground electronic music scene.

In this episode, Akvilina takes the listeners through a historical journey of her own, as she dives deep into the downtempo rhythms of indie, new wave, and dark disco genres, which inspired the very beginning of her musical interpretations as an artist. The dazzling and viscous melodies transmit completely new energy to the timely, crumbling walls of the church, bringing them back to a different kind of life.

This unique architectural and musical collaboration bridges the preconceived gap between classical and contemporary underground art. The desire here is to show that the phenomenon of culture is a continuous process of creativity and freedom of expression, rather than a plurality of conflicting dogmas.

The Antidote production team did everything they could to capture the fascinating panoramic scenery of the entire Vilnius Old Town and reminding us all of the exceptional beauty that constantly surrounds us. It comes to show that a small change in our perspective can have a massive impact on our perception.

Antidote Community unites a group of independent electronic music producers, DJs, performers, and videographers based in Vilnius. 'Antodote.' seeks to promote electronic music as a cultural phenomenon equal to any other art form.
