Latvian hiphop artist comes up with a nostalgic anthem about the life of a musician “Rajons ar mani”. In his latest release, the popular rapper looks back on what he has experienced so far on the stage, and also dedicates words of gratitude to his friends and supporters.
"Song about the district. A song about friends. No matter what difficulties or adventures we get into, the people we grew up with, even if they are far away and each in their own corner of the world, are still with us. And in the most necessary moments, whether in memories, in our hearts, or physically - it is with us. The district is in me. You can take the fellow out of the district, but you can't take the district out of the fellow . That is also what this story is about. I grew up in Zasa, Zolitude, Ziepniekalns, drew graffiti, broke, rapped and lived the full life of the hip-hop district. This clip is a love letter to hip-hop. It was made in New York, which is the home of hip-hop," says Reik about the new single.
While filming, the musician visited legendary places. Brooklyn, where the US hip-hop star Notorious BIG grew up, passed by Queens, where rapper 50 Cent is from, and also lived for a while in the Bronx, where many legendary hip-hop founders come from.
"The song means a lot to me and the clip also shows images and symbolism that I was inspired by, starting my rap career at an early age - 12-13 years old," adds the artist.
The song "Rajons ar mani" was composed by Reiks, in cooperation with the producer, musician Mārtiņas Rudzītis. The single was released in cooperation with Made In Baltics Entertainment.
Reiks is also known as one of the members of the group "Olas" and started his career together with his friend Dāvidas Strazdiņas (Vraits). The first songs in English were still recorded on cassettes, but at the age of 16 Reiks completed his first "mixtape" - in Latvian. Although at the age of 16, Reiks was not present at the presentation of his music video because he was not of legal age, as time went by, more and more songs and music videos were created. Both solo and in collaboration with other musicians, many songs that are already known to the people have been created. Reiks has performed concerts all over Latvia, studied multimedia communication at Rīga Stradiņu University and RISEBA - film direction and production, and is currently also active in the field of video and radio advertising.
