The British golden-voiced star sang his way into the hearts of an international audience with his soulful single ‘Another Love’. His life has been like rollercoaster, full of wonderful highs and deep lows. The award-winning musician found his personal sound only after a few years as a professional songwriter. The main driving force was the fact that no one else was simply suited to performing Tom’s highly emotional work.
And so, Odell forged his own career path as an artist, and of course his 2013 debut album Long Way Down was met with critical and commercial acclaim. The attention and praise laid the foundations for an extremely thorough work ethic, coupled with anxiety issues, which led the musician to a major turning point in 2018. On the back of prestigious awards and three top 5 albums in the UK charts, Odell found himself in the middle of a maelstrom of emotions with only one way out – songwriting.
Tom Odell’s fourth studio album Monsters has a much deeper and darker pop music sound, but nevertheless it also shows the light at the end of the tunnel and the hope that surely speaks to so many people in these uncertain times. The talented songwriter has said that he feels most confident when he can be as honest and open as possible in his writing, sharing with listeners life experiences that have really happened to him.
What makes Tom Odell unique is his determination and belief in his gut feeling. It is not often that Odell sits down with pen and paper to make a long-term plan. With this new album, he wanted to convey the immediate emotion and authenticity that nothing is ever final or perfect.
‘I mostly trust my intuition in my decisions and actions because I like to let life surprise me. Sometimes it works; other times it doesn’t work at all,’ said Odell.
Tom has said that if he were to have dinner with anyone, living or dead, his choice would be David Bowie, Elvis, John Lennon or Aretha Franklin. All of Odell’s favourites were undoubtedly wonderful performers. On 22 June, the Noblessner Foundry and on 23 June, Trakai Island Castle will be the venues for a magical concert experience, as the skilled singer and pianist brings his much-loved hits and new songs to the stage.
