UNDER Festival 2023: First headliners revealed

UNDER festival, known as international hub for electronic music fans celebrating diversity and underground movement, invites to enjoy two days of electronic music experience with international DJs and a live artists lineup on May 19 - 20 in Riga, Latvia! Tickets here.

The organizers say that the location of the fourth festival edition will be opened closer to its date and that kinds of events have not yet been held there:

It will be an industrial site and an area where three stages are planned, one of which will be open-air.” The first day of UNDER Festival 2023 will be given over to electronic live performances, while the second will become a traditionally long-running electronic music experience for those who like various genres.

The festival has announced the first headliners for 2023. One of the festival stages will be headlined by DJ, producer and musician Tiga from Canada. His breakthrough was the track "Sunglasses at Night" in 2001, which climbed high in the British dance chart. His other hits include "Pleasure From the Bass", "You Gonna Want Me", "Shoes", "Let's Go Dancing", "Bugatti", and "Make Me Fall In Love". Tiga's debut album "Sexor" won the Juno Award for Best Recording of 2007. The artist also recorded DJ mixes of the legendary series "DJ-Kicks", "American Gigolo" and "Mixed Emotions", which brought him the love of a wide audience.

The techno stage will be led by Slam, masters of the world's techno culture. In Glasgow, they founded the Soma Records label, which released many techno classics, including their own "Positive Education". Soma Records also introduced the Daft Punk to the world: the label released the French project’s debut recordings "The New Wave" and "Da Funk".

Slam’s unique, six-deck, back-to-back DJ performances have seen the duo play at leading clubs and festivals across the world. They are renowned for both their experience and their powerful, contemporary sound. Slam also host one of Techno’s most respected weekly podcasts, Slam Radio, which has now surpassed over 500 episodes. They have remixed tracks from the likes of Planetary Assault Systems, Clouds, Dax J, Damon Wild, Richie Hawtin, and Truncate, to name just a few.

Alinka is one of the brightest and most relevant names on the modern house club scene. At the age of seven, together with her family, she emigrated from Soviet Ukraine to the United States, where she settled in Chicago. There she became a resident of the famous Smartbar and met Shaun J. Wright of Hercules & Love Affair, with whom she launched the party series and Twirl label housing their own music (if not released by the likes of Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon's Classic Music Company), as well as iconic house voices such as Josh Caffe and Aerea Negrot.

Today Alinka lives in Berlin and is a resident of Panorama Bar, also playing in different cities of the world, including London, Paris and others. She has an impressive discography, releasing regularly on Rekids, Crosstown Rebels, Need Want, Permanent Vacation, He.She.They, and remixing for Live At Robert Johnson, Keinemusik, Get Physical and more.

The star of Friday's electronic live night will be the Italian duo Hard Ton with their unique acid sound. Fused together in 2008 from the musical loins of Wawashi Deejay and heavy metal singer Max, Hard Ton has released through a plethora of class-A labels such as Permanent Vacation, Toy Tonics, Compost Disco, International Deejay Gigolo, Balkan Vinyl, Bordello A Parigi and many others.

Their distinctive signature sound is a unique blend of Chicago house, disco-styled falsettos, crunchy acid basslines, and a pinch of Italo disco. In their show, music and performance meet to create something that truly dares to be different: Max’s persona serves oversized queerness, fashion extravaganza, and a flawless vocal performance that makes every dancefloor starving for more.

Among the first announced UNDER Festival 2023 names are representatives of the Baltic club scene - Merimell from Estonia and Mountak from Lithuania, as well as the Latvian band Podruga with live performance, and local leading underground DJs Ksenia Kamikaza, Taran & Lomov, E91, D I N, Lévi, Elvi Soulsystems, Laiva Maikule and DJ Orthodox from Liepaja. The next artists will be announced in a few weeks.

UNDER Festival brings together electronic music fans from all walks of life, regardless of their racial, cultural, gender and social diversities, uniting them UNDER the festival values which they all common share. The festival was set up with the intention to promote the truly special, unique, playful and aesthetic aspects of the underground movement both locally and internationally, showcasing newcomers and legends of the electronic music scene, and inviting the convergence of art and music between generations.
